US Navy Second Class Petty Officer Badge or the Shipfitter SF formally established in 1921 using crossed mauls/hammers or expertise in hull construction and repair. In 1948 the SF rating split into two categories Metalsmith ME and Pipefitter FP, and again in 1972 Hull Maintenance Technician HT which had too many jobs and then had HT and DC for Damage Control. HT focusing on metalwork and welding, plumbing and piping. US Navy Second Class Petty officer or E-5 rank Hull Maintenance Technician is still active today. Due to the mesh looking backing it is likely form Cold War-Era being produced between 1960 and 1980's
